Ironically, I had a magnolia tree right in my own yard—but I’d overlooked it. It wasn’t until my husband, while pruning, unintentionally created a perfect line of sight that I saw it differently. The timing felt serendipitous, yet photographing the bloom proved far more difficult than expected. The magnolia is temperamental, its perfection lasting only moments before fading. Frustrated by its elusiveness, I abandoned the idea, convinced it wasn’t meant to be part of the series.

But my husband remained undeterred. Quietly, he began checking the tree each day—waiting for that one, flawless bloom. Then one Saturday morning, after a sleepless night, he woke me with gentle urgency: “You need to see this one.”Groggy and hesitant, I stepped outside—and in that instant, everything shifted. There it was: luminous, soft, and surreal. A perfect bloom bathed in morning light.
